What Actually Happens
When You Land at Faro
Faro is a mid-sized airport that handles a large number of flights through summer. Baggage reclaim is straightforward, customs is quick for most international arrivals, and the exits feed directly into the arrivals hall where drivers wait in a dedicated area with name boards.
The taxi rank is outside, a short walk from arrivals. In peak season the queue moves slowly. Uber works from the car park, which means leaving the building, walking to the designated zone and waiting for a driver to accept. With a private transfer, your driver is already inside at arrivals with your name. You don't search for the car. The car comes to you.

Drive Times from Faro Airport
The Algarve is a long coastline and Faro sits roughly in the middle. Some destinations are a short run and others are a real journey. Knowing how long it takes helps you plan that first evening, particularly if you have children with you or a long-haul flight behind you.
These are normal drive times outside peak traffic. In August, the coast road between Faro and Albufeira can add twenty minutes. Your driver knows the alternatives.

Things Worth Knowing
Before You Touch Down
These are the things first-time visitors to Faro tend to wish they had known beforehand. Nothing complicated, but worth having in your head before you land.
- Flight tracking is real. Your driver monitors your actual arrival time, not the scheduled one. If you land 40 minutes early or the bags take longer than expected, they already know.
- Arrivals can feel chaotic in summer. There are often dozens of drivers holding name signs. Look for yours, it will be there. If you can't see it immediately, stop walking and give it a moment.
- You don't need Portuguese. All booking confirmation, communication and the journey itself are in English throughout.
- Child seats and large luggage. Sort these when you book. Much easier to arrange in advance than to discover the vehicle isn't equipped when you're already at the exit doors.
- The Mercedes V Class is worth knowing about. If you're travelling with more than four people or have a lot of bags, the V Class carries up to seven passengers with proper legroom and luggage space. It is not a minibus.
- Your transfer is your first impression of the Algarve. Hotels, restaurants and beaches get most of the planning attention. The first twenty minutes after landing usually don't. They probably should.
